Quick Tip Tuesday

Tuesday means it is time for another quick tip over on the Fantabulous Cricut Challenge Blog. This week I have decided to share my top 3 favorite organizational items. All the items I am going to share with you are ones I actually use in my scrap space and were worth every dime!

1. Renee's Clip it Up!
I have seen a number of tutorials on how to make your own inexpensive Clip it up and I even tried a couple but nothing works like the real thing!

2. The Ribbon Ring
I recieved this little gem in a scrap swap. I had seen them before and never thought it was something I needed but let me tell you this is the most amazing little organizational tool. It is perfect for all you ribbon by the yard!!

3. Making Memories Embelishment Centre Two years ago this is what I asked for, for Christmas and I have never regretted it! Even though this shelf is not deep it still holds an amazing amount of products. From my Ink, to spooled ribbon this shelf holds just about everything.

Whats your favorite storage item? Leave us a comment and let us know . . . We would love to hear your favorites.

Hope you find this weeks tip useful and remember if you have a tip you would like to share with our reads please email me at addictedtopaper@hotmail.com I would love to feature you!

Scrappin' Saturday #2: Custom Die Cut Background Paper

Happy Saturday everyone!  Today's Scrappin' Saturday topic is Custom Die Cut Backgrounds!  You know those gorgeous die-cut papers with the decorative edges?  The ones that cost a FORTUNE???  Why not make them yourself? (With a little help from that fabulous machine known as the Cricut!)
For this layout, I used some regular patterned paper and cardstock, as well as the Storybook cartridge.  I used the shadow feature to cut the turquoise layer and then just used the standard mode to cut the black and white patterned paper.  When layered, it gives the allusion of a bordered die-cut paper.

You can get super-fancy with this technique, or keep it somewhat simple, like a scalloped circle or square.  Either way, you'll have beautiful, custom pages that didn't break the bank!!!  :)

Let us know if you try this technique and link your projects in the comments section below...
Happy Scrappin!

Thursday's Tutorials #2

**If you have a great tutorial/video (or come across one visiting someone blog) I would love to share it here, just send me an email click here.

Tutorial: layered pattern box.
This is one of my favorite ways to decorate boxes, I have shown this tutorial on my blog, but I love the simplicity of it.
This technique can be used for any box found on any of the cricut cartridges.
This heart box can be found on page 117 of the "Tags, Bags, Boxes & More" Cricut cartridge booklet.

I began by cutting two of the same size box. One on heavy cardstock and one using patterned paper (often times pattern paper is very thin, so this technique works well to make a sturdy box). I like to use the "fit to page" feature on my expressions machine, which cut this box at 6" using my 12 x12 cutting mat.

On the pattern paper image I score on the markings, then cut on those lines, I also cut the handles off and discard them along with the skinny tab edges.
Then I cut about 1/8" off each edge using my scissors, discard those pieces.

Then adhere my trimmed pieces on my cardstock box, score on the markings.

I like to embellish my box completely before I fold and glue my box together, it makes it much easier for me. I placed a clear piece of plastic in the heart window.
I cut three flower images on page 107 (same cartridge) using the "blackout" feature in three sizes, 1", 3/4" and 1/2". I got the flowers wet, crumpled them up, then opened them a bit and when dry I rubbed red ink over the crumpled flowers. Layered them together and added a jewel.I cut the heart tag from page 108 using the "mirror/windows" feature. Using red cardstock I cut at 2", then 2 1/4" using white cardstock. I folded the red windows in half, and from the white image I used only one of the heart images to place between my red windows. I used a red marker to write the word "hugs" and for the little heart on the tag.

Quick Tip Tuesday

It's Tuesday which means it is time for another super fantabulous quick tip and I cannot wait to share this one with you . . . genius is how I would describe this one!!

I recieved an email early this week from one of our fantabulous followers, Wendy Ramlakhan over at Whimsical Wendy and she has an incredible tip that I am thrilled to be able to share with you all. Check out Wendy's post about creating a template for making multiple cuts with your cricut and any sentiment you can dream up created in Word. This tip is super for making duplicate cards like invites, announcments, and Thank You's. Pretty darn clever I must say!!!

Here are Wendy's instructions:

"First, I had the Cricut cut the tag to fill an entire 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper. I just used regular copier paper to do this since this was going to just serve as a template, no need to waste precious cardstock. (Just set the Cricut to the lightest pressure.) The Cricut had cut the tag 4 across the page and 7 down. Now I knew how I needed to set up my Word document. Next, I opened a blank Word document with the margins ALL set to zero. I chose my font, and typed the sentiment. I started spacing the sentiments evenly in rows just like the Cricut template. (It took only about 4 test prints of the Word document before I had the spacing perfect, so it was really easy to do.) I knew it was perfect when I laid the cut out tag template over the printed sentiment sheet and it all lined up. When I had it all just right, I printed the sentiments out onto cardstock, placed that cardstock sheet into the Cricut and Ta-Da!!! Perfectly printed sentiment tags cut for me!!! Isn't that so cool? It really saved a lot of time."

Be sure to pop by and visit Wendy and leave her some lovin'!

Thanks Wendy for your amazing tip and remember, if you have a tip you would like to share regarding you cricut, cuttlebug, storage solutions, or any scrappiness please email me because I would love to feature you on our next Tuesday Quick Tip!
